2025 Comparative Assessment of VPN Performance

This report presents the findings of a comparative assessment of Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions conducted by AV-TEST GmbH in February 2025, commissioned by Kaspersky. The evaluation aimed to measure the performance of selected VPN services against unencrypted reference connections, focusing on key performance indicators such as download and upload speeds, torrent download performance, and latency across various geographical locations. The tested VPN products included Avast SecureLine VPN, CyberGhost VPN, ExpressVPN, Kaspersky VPN, Kaspersky Premium, NordVPN, Norton Secure VPN, Proton VPN, Surfshark, and Turbo VPN. The report details the performance outcomes, highlighting that Kaspersky VPN and Kaspersky Premium exhibited strong performance in both local and overseas connections. The findings indicate that while using a VPN typically results in some performance reduction, the impact varies significantly across different products. The report also includes a Combined Score Ranking based on the measured parameters, with Kaspersky VPN and Kaspersky Premium receiving the AV-TEST APPROVED VPN certification.
