This case study details the upgrade of the Chenango Forks Central School District's communication system to a KENWOOD DMR system aimed at improving radio coverage and connectivity across their campus. The district, which serves over 1,300 students across multiple school buildings, faced significant challenges with their previous analog radio system, particularly in terms of coverage gaps between the elementary and middle/high school facilities. Michael Pavlovich, the Director of Operations and Finance, recognized the urgent need for a reliable communication system to ensure safety during emergencies. The upgrade involved the installation of two Kenwood DMR digital repeaters and various portable radios, enhancing communication capabilities significantly. The new system allows for multiple simultaneous conversations and includes features tailored for emergency situations. Feedback from staff has been positive, noting the reliability of the new digital radios compared to cell phones, which are not relied upon for critical communications. The case study emphasizes the importance of effective communication in educational settings.
