This technical report presents findings from a survey conducted by Kong Inc. involving 700 IT leaders regarding API security and the rising risks associated with AI-enhanced threats. The report outlines that a significant number of respondents, approximately 83%, believe that AI investments have led to new opportunities, yet 74% express serious concerns about AI-enhanced attacks. Despite 55% of organizations experiencing API security incidents in the past year, 85% maintain confidence in their security capabilities, which may be unfounded given that 77% recognize the potential risks from AI integration. The report details the substantial costs associated with API security incidents, with 20% of respondents reporting remediation costs exceeding $500,000. It highlights that while organizations are aware of the changing threat landscape, many lack adequate security measures to protect their API infrastructure. The report emphasizes the need for improved visibility and management of APIs to mitigate these emerging risks.
