This case study details the renewal of line control technology in the production of intaglio printing and rotation at Prinovis GmbH & Co. KG in Dresden. The project aimed to ensure long-term availability of line control systems while maintaining ongoing production. Key challenges included conducting preparative tests without interrupting production and implementing a seamless upgrade. The result of this initiative was an increase in process quality and a consistent software architecture for the line control systems. The modernization involved a high-performance software architecture that standardized interfaces and separated duties among various operational aspects. The server systems were operated on a virtual VMware platform, enhancing maintainability and availability. The graphical representation of line controller dialogues and job management was improved using WPF, leading to positive feedback from operators regarding the enhanced user experience. This project exemplifies the collaboration between Prinovis and Kontron AIS GmbH in advancing factory automation solutions.
