This case study details how Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) addressed staffing challenges in the operating room (OR) through the implementation of LeanTaaS's iQueue Staff Planner module. OHSU's Center for Health and Healing, which operates 15 ORs, faced significant cognitive burdens and inefficiencies due to a lack of centralized digital tools for staff assignments. Service line coordinators (SLCs) were unable to access complete and up-to-date information on staff experience, leading to time-consuming manual processes for creating staff assignments. The introduction of the iQueue Staff Planner streamlined these operations by automating communications and providing a single source of truth for staff information. After six months of using the module, OHSU reported significant time savings for SLCs, nurse managers, and charge nurses, allowing them to focus more on patient care and staff development. The implementation fostered collaboration and improved operational workflows, ultimately enhancing patient safety and staff competency.
