This document is a case study detailing how Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) addressed staffing challenges in its Center for Health and Healing (CHH) operating rooms (ORs). The case study outlines the manual and time-consuming processes previously employed by service line coordinators (SLCs) for staff assignments, which involved multiple steps and relied heavily on institutional knowledge. It describes how the introduction of the iQueue for Operating Rooms Staff Planner's Daily Roster streamlined these processes by providing a centralized digital tool that offers real-time insights into staff experience and qualifications. The implementation of this tool significantly reduced the time spent on staff assignments, enabling SLCs, charge nurses, and nurse managers to save an estimated 20 hours per week collectively. The case study also highlights the positive impact on staff training, collaboration, and patient safety, as well as plans for expanding the solution to additional OHSU locations to standardize staffing workflows.
