This research brief presents findings from a randomized control trial examining the effectiveness of the Lexia Core5 Reading program for students with reading and language-based disabilities. The study involved 115 students in grades K-5 receiving special education services, assessing their reading achievement using the MAP Growth Reading assessment. The results indicated that students who utilized Core5 significantly outperformed control students on standardized reading assessments, with an effect size of 0.24, which is considered large. The study's design met Tier 1 (Strong) criteria as defined by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), ensuring a high standard of evidence. The findings suggest that educational technology, specifically Core5, can enhance reading outcomes for students with specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairments, or developmental delays. The research emphasizes the importance of adaptive learning programs in supporting literacy development among students facing these challenges.
