This case study details the implementation of hybrid filtering by Hutto Independent School District (Hutto ISD) to enhance the safety of student devices both on and off the school network. Hutto ISD, which has seen significant growth in enrollment over the past 15 years, faced challenges with its previous legacy hardware-based content filtering solution. The lack of SSL decryption and off-site filtering capabilities hindered the district's ability to ensure student safety and provide accurate reporting to non-technical administrators. After evaluating Linewize's hybrid filtering solution at a tradeshow, Hutto ISD conducted a proof of concept that proved effective, especially during the transition to remote learning necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The implementation of Linewize Filter allowed for seamless filtering of devices, providing greater visibility and control over student internet usage. The case study highlights the benefits of adopting a hybrid approach, which combines cloud and on-premise filtering, thus addressing previous limitations.
