This case study details the implementation of a centralized labeling solution by Siemens to standardize label production across its manufacturing operations. The challenge faced included a lack of standardization, varying integration levels, hard-coded label formats, and absence of version history. To address these issues, Siemens adopted the NiceLabel label management system, which integrates with their PLM, MES, and ERP systems. The solution resulted in significant improvements, including a reduction in label print time from eight seconds to 300 milliseconds and a return on investment achieved in less than four months. The NiceLabel system has been deployed across 22 sites with 1,200 printers, enabling scalability and efficiency in label production. The case study illustrates how the labeling-as-a-service model has been successfully implemented and is now offered to other business units within Siemens, showcasing its potential for broader application across the organization.
