This case study details the experience of Lamps Plus in managing their Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environment, highlighting the challenges faced and the solutions implemented. Initially, Lamps Plus transitioned from Citrix to AVD, but encountered operational scalability issues that affected critical customer-facing users. The need for deeper expertise in troubleshooting and longer resolution times prompted a redesign of their AVD management approach. The team adopted ephemeral OS disks to enhance performance and cost efficiency, but faced challenges in implementation. To address these issues, they evaluated various solutions and ultimately chose Hydra, which simplified AVD management by centralizing operations into a single control plane. The early results of this implementation included a 75% increase in infrastructure design speed, significant cost savings, and a reduction in helpdesk escalations. This case study illustrates how Lamps Plus is building a sustainable operational foundation for scaling their AVD environment effectively.
