This case study outlines the challenges faced by a global health client due to high Oracle database utilization and inefficient custom PDWS filters. The client, a non-profit association dedicated to improving health through medical research and education, experienced performance issues as their data complexity grew. LTIMindtree proposed a solution utilizing OpenSearch to enhance application searches in the Eras for Programs (E4P) system. The implementation involved creating a 'Data Bridge' to synchronize data from the MyERAS Oracle database to the Amazon OpenSearch data store in near-real time. The results of this solution included improved performance, with an average of 60 Transactions Per Second (TPS), and the ability to decouple Oracle data structures from search requirements. The new system allowed for reliable read-only searches across prior season’s data, thus optimizing the overall performance of the client’s application processes.
