This report presents findings from a research study commissioned by Malwarebytes, which surveyed 1,000 internet users aged 13-77 in North America regarding their attitudes and behaviors toward online safety and security. The study reveals a significant level of anxiety surrounding cybersecurity threats, with 97% of respondents expressing concern about issues such as identity theft, financial breaches, and the exposure of personal information. Despite this high level of concern, only half of the participants feel confident in their ability to protect themselves online. The report highlights a disconnect between users' fears and their actual online behaviors, with many engaging in risky practices that compromise their security. Notably, Gen Z respondents exhibit heightened anxiety regarding the exposure of personal details, fearing potential real-world consequences such as bullying or harm. The findings underscore the urgent need for improved education on cybersecurity measures to help users navigate the complexities of online safety.
