This study is a research article that investigates the relationship between cannabis use and the prescription of anti-anxiety medications. It highlights the prevalence of anxiety disorders and the reliance on medications such as benzodiazepines and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. The research outlines the potential of cannabis, particularly cannabinoids like THC and CBD, to manage anxiety symptoms with fewer side effects. The study involved 634 adult patients and categorized cannabis use into 'Before', 'During', and 'After' periods. Results indicated that during cannabis use, there was a significant increase in the Defined Daily Dose (DDD) ratio of anti-anxiety medications, while a decrease was observed after cessation. Notably, patients using cannabis alongside benzodiazepines showed a substantial reduction in their use of these medications. The findings suggest that cannabis may provide therapeutic benefits in managing anxiety, warranting further exploration of its role in treatment plans for anxiety disorders.
