This case study details the design and implementation of an automated Container Discharging System developed by Material Transfer for the recycling of battery materials. As the demand for lithium-ion batteries increases, driven by the shift towards electric vehicles, the need for efficient recycling processes becomes critical. The system is designed to handle bulk containers of battery materials safely, addressing the unique challenges posed by the toxic chemicals within batteries. Key features include sealed discharge mechanisms, control system interlocks for operator safety, and machine guarding with load side light curtains. The automated system enhances productivity by enabling the discharge of up to ten boxes per hour while reducing the risks associated with manual handling. This innovation not only improves operational efficiency but also supports the company's role in the circular supply chain for battery materials, contributing to a sustainable energy future.
