Arlington Rideshare Automation and Payment Integration Final Report

The Arlington Rideshare, Automation, and Payment Integration Demonstration (RAPID) Final Report is a comprehensive document detailing the integration of a shared, dynamically routed automated vehicle (AV) fleet into an existing public rideshare system in Arlington, Texas. The project was conducted from March 23, 2021, to March 18, 2022, in a designated area that encompassed Arlington's downtown and the University of Texas at Arlington campus. During the one-year demonstration, a total of 28,140 rides were provided without any safety incidents, showcasing the successful integration of AV services into the on-demand rideshare framework. The report includes rider feedback indicating a positive perception of safety and service enjoyment, particularly noting the free fares for UTA students. Additionally, the findings offer valuable insights for enhancing automated public transit services in other regions, focusing on aspects such as safety, technology, service design, and public communication. The City of Arlington and its partners plan to continue operating the RAPID service, applying lessons learned to enhance its benefits for the community.
