Traffic Management System Upgrade in Winnipeg

This document is a case study detailing the deployment of the MyCity Traffic Management System (TMS) in the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The integration aimed to provide a seamless upgrade to the latest ATC controller standard while supporting existing legacy controllers. The project involved collaboration with Innovative Traffic Solutions, Inc. to supply the McCain ATC 2070LX Controller platform, compatible with the city’s infrastructure. The case study outlines the challenges faced, particularly regarding the city’s cellular modem communications, which resulted in latency issues affecting traffic management. The first phase of deployment included upgrading over 600 McCain 170 Controllers and supplying additional software licenses. Subsequent phases introduced new features to enhance system performance, such as the Polling Interval feature, which improved communication efficiency. The document also discusses the extensive street network managed by Winnipeg and the comprehensive training provided to local traffic engineers to ensure effective implementation and operation of the upgraded system.
