AI's Impact on Work and Skills in Europe

This report examines how artificial intelligence (AI) and automation are transforming work and skills across Europe. It highlights that collaboration among people, agents, and robots will become increasingly important in the workforce. The analysis reveals that 58 percent of current work hours in ten European countries could theoretically be automated using existing technologies, indicating a significant shift in work dynamics. The report also estimates that automation could unlock up to $1.9 trillion in economic value by 2030, contingent on the pace of adoption influenced by factors such as costs and regulation. Despite the rise of automation, the demand for human skills remains strong, with three-quarters of the skills sought by employers being applicable in both automatable and non-automatable tasks. Additionally, the demand for AI-related skills has surged, with a fivefold increase in job postings since 2023. Leadership decisions will be crucial in shaping the future of work as organizations adapt to these changes.
