This case study details the challenges faced by the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly regarding the maintenance of one of its coolers. The plant, which operates two reactor units, was unable to defer this maintenance due to strict operational protocols. Compounded by pandemic restrictions, the need for on-site expertise became critical yet unattainable. mCloud Technologies provided a solution through its AssetCare platform, utilizing remote communications to facilitate the maintenance process. Instead of sending an expert, mCloud shipped laser scanning equipment and a headset to the plant, allowing on-site employees to receive real-time guidance. This innovative approach not only addressed immediate maintenance needs but also resulted in significant process improvements, enabling faster turnaround times for future tasks. The case study illustrates how remote technology can optimize operations in the nuclear sector, particularly under challenging circumstances.
