This technical report presents a benchmark analysis comparing the performance of McObject’s eXtremeDB in-memory database system (IMDS) with transaction logging against traditional disk-based database management systems (DBMS) using EMC’s XtremSF server-based PCIe flash storage. The objective of the report is to determine whether an IMDS with transaction logging can outperform a traditional DBMS and how the type of storage impacts performance. The tests conducted assess various database operations, including inserts, updates, deletes, index searches, and table traversals, while also examining the effects of concurrency on processing speed. Results indicate that the IMDS with transaction logging maintains a speed advantage over the traditional DBMS, particularly when utilizing PCIe flash storage. The report further discusses the implications of using different storage types and the performance benefits of IMDSs in high-concurrency environments. Overall, the findings provide insights into the efficiency of in-memory databases in real-time applications.
