University of Pennsylvania Health System Epic Optimization Project

This document is a case study detailing the collaboration between the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) and Mediant Health Resources aimed at optimizing the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. The project was initiated to enhance workflow and documentation quality across various Epic applications following multiple EMR upgrades. Mediant provided expert consultants to assist in customizing the Epic EMR for improved efficiency and standardized workflows for clinical support staff. The project was executed in stages, starting with a pilot phase that involved training 700 providers and clinical support staff across 13 divisions. Feedback from participants indicated high satisfaction, with 100% agreeing that Mediant's training approach was effective. The project successfully raised provider efficiency profile scores and maintained adherence to budget and timelines. The partnership continued to yield positive results as additional phases of the project were implemented, reinforcing the effectiveness of the training and support provided by Mediant.
