This case study details the strategic transformation initiative undertaken by the Defra Group aimed at harmonising operations and enhancing efficiency through IT platform optimisation. The project involved migrating from outdated systems and leveraging the ServiceNow workflow automation platform to standardise processes across various departments. A collaborative effort with Methods was established to address gaps in resources and expertise, leading to the development of a new intranet on a unified platform. This new intranet model improved user experience and accessibility, allowing seamless navigation and interaction across Defra and its Arms Length Bodies (ALBs). The initiative included comprehensive user discovery processes, technical design, and the establishment of standardised workflows. The project achieved significant outcomes such as enhanced intranet functionality, improved employee experience, and reduced data security risks. Stakeholder engagement was high throughout the project, contributing to its overall success and the effective transition of responsibilities back to the Major Programmes and Platforms team.
