This technical report presents a project focused on the development of haul roads for a leading Oil and Gas producer in the Appalachian Basin. The objective was to create roads capable of withstanding extreme traffic loads during drilling and fracking phases. Traditional methods utilized a rigid 12-inch cement base, which was inefficient in terms of material usage and flexibility. The project implemented a polymer-based stabilization method using Midwest’s Soil Sement Engineered Formula®, which reduced cement usage by 50% while achieving compressive strengths exceeding 500 psi. The report outlines the challenges faced, including the need for long-term durability and minimal operational disruption. It details the solution, which involved a combination of aggregate layers and reduced cement content, resulting in significant savings in both cement and water consumption. The results indicate that this hybrid stabilization method is a cost-effective alternative to traditional practices, offering benefits in sustainability and operational efficiency for energy operations.
