This report analyzes the variations in contracted reimbursement rates for physician-administered autoimmune drugs at 340B and non-340B hospitals in the United States. Commissioned by the International Foundation for Autoimmune & Autoinflammatory Arthritis, the study examines hospital price transparency data to understand the differences in reimbursement rates and margins. The analysis includes 10 autoimmune drugs across 25 hospitals, revealing that median contracted reimbursement levels at 340B hospitals are approximately 8 percentage points higher than those at non-340B hospitals. Furthermore, the report indicates that 340B hospitals generally achieve higher margins for autoimmune drugs due to lower drug acquisition costs. The findings suggest potential implications for patient access and affordability, highlighting the need for further research to assess how these reimbursement differences affect out-of-pocket costs and treatment adherence for patients with autoimmune diseases. The report also discusses the significance of the 340B Drug Pricing Program in this context.
