This technical report presents a series of recommendations developed through workshops at the Federal Identity Forum aimed at addressing identity theft in the context of evolving technological threats. The report outlines the urgent need for a comprehensive strategy from the incoming presidential administration to enhance identity security and restore public trust. It details the alarming rise in identity theft incidents, driven by advancements in artificial intelligence and social engineering tactics. The report emphasizes the importance of a nationwide public education campaign to inform citizens about identity theft prevention and recovery. It also highlights the necessity of enhancing certification and accountability for digital identity products and services, ensuring compliance with updated security standards. Furthermore, the report calls for a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to protect citizens and support victims of identity theft, including the establishment of interagency groups to oversee the implementation of these strategies and policies.
