This technical report presents the verification of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model focused on hydrogen combustion in a large marine two-stroke engine. The study is motivated by the International Maritime Organization's greenhouse gas reduction strategy, which aims for net-zero emissions by around 2050. The report details combustion tests conducted using a modified 4S50ME-T engine, where one cylinder was fueled by hydrogen while the others used marine diesel oil. Two combustion types were investigated: diffusion combustion and premixed combustion. The report outlines the modifications made to the engine for hydrogen combustion and the results of the tests, which confirmed the applicability of hydrogen as a fuel. Additionally, the report describes the development of a simulation model that reproduces hydrogen combustion characteristics, utilizing a gas parcel method to enhance computational efficiency. The findings suggest that the simulation model can facilitate further research and development in optimizing hydrogen combustion for marine applications.
