This guide details the Early Childhood Service Intensity Instrument (ECSII), developed by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), which assists in creating treatment plans for children aged birth to 5 years with behavioral health concerns. The ECSII employs a multidimensional approach to assess the service intensity required for young children and their families. It consists of six domains that evaluate various aspects of a child's situation, including safety, caregiver relationships, caregiving environment, functional status, impact of medical or emotional issues, and service profile. Each domain is scored from 1 to 5, contributing to an overall Service Intensity Level that guides the recommended level of care. The guide outlines six distinct Service Intensity Levels, ranging from basic health services to maximal service intensity, each defined by the complexity of the child's needs and the required support. The ECSII aims to facilitate collaboration among caregivers, care teams, and insurance providers to promote recovery in the least restrictive environment.
