Case Study on Arizona State University Radio System

This case study outlines the implementation of a new radio communication system at Arizona State University (ASU) to enhance safety and security across its four campuses. The previous VHF conventional system, which was outdated and prone to communication failures, was replaced due to the need for improved reliability and interoperability with surrounding agencies. The transition was prompted by a directive from university administration following the Virginia Tech incident. The new ASTRO® 25 trunked system provides nearly 100% coverage, digital clarity, and encryption to prevent unauthorized access. Key features include an emergency button for immediate assistance and multiple talk groups for flexible communication. The collaboration between ASU, Creative Communications, and Motorola was essential for the successful implementation of the system, which is expected to support not only police operations but also other university departments in the future. This upgrade represents a significant enhancement in the university's emergency response capabilities.
