This case study details the implementation of a TETRA digital radio system by Motorola for the G8 Summit held in Heiligendamm, Germany, in June 2007. The primary objective was to ensure effective communication among the extensive security and emergency services present during the summit, which involved high-profile world leaders and potential demonstrations. The project required the installation of a comprehensive communication network covering a 9,200 square kilometer area, which included Heiligendamm and surrounding regions. Motorola was contracted to deliver the system within a tight three-month timeframe, providing 2,100 radios and training personnel. The TETRA system utilized Motorola's Dimetra IP platform and included various components such as base stations and handheld radios, equipped with GPS for enhanced operational efficiency. The successful deployment facilitated over 170,000 calls, demonstrating the system's reliability and effectiveness in maintaining security during the event.
