Operational Site Assessment for Inventory Management

This document is a case study detailing the operational site assessment conducted by MSC for a British manufacturer of steam management systems and peristaltic pumps. The assessment aimed to identify opportunities for an automated and strategic inventory management solution to address challenges such as obsolete inventory, stock-outs, and lack of reporting and visibility into inventory levels. The Business Needs Analysis (BNA) performed by MSC provided a comprehensive evaluation of the customer's indirect supply chain. The proposed solution included expanding vending machine capacity, implementing a full-time in-plant service representative, and utilizing a new platform for visibility and reporting. The projected cost savings from this initiative amounted to $347,000, achieved through inventory savings from consumption reduction and procurement savings from supplier consolidation. The case study also outlines the establishment of quarterly Customer Improvement Reviews to evaluate progress and identify further improvement initiatives, ensuring the customer's productivity remains high.
