Global Survey on Flea and Tick Prevention Practices

This technical report presents findings from the Pet Owner & Vet Perspectives on Parasite Treatment and Prevention: A Global Survey conducted by MSD Animal Health. The survey reveals significant gaps in pet owner adherence to flea and tick prevention, with 82% of pet owners recognizing fleas and ticks as a health threat to their pets and families. Despite this awareness, 55% of veterinarians report that many pet owners do not administer year-round flea and tick prevention. The report highlights the increasing risks associated with warmer temperatures, which contribute to the expansion of fleas and ticks in various regions. It also discusses the role of veterinarians in promoting flea and tick treatments during routine check-ups, with many expressing concerns about pet owner compliance. The survey methodology involved responses from over 4,000 pet owners and 582 veterinarians across 15 countries, providing a comprehensive view of current practices and perceptions regarding parasite prevention.
