Pet Owner and Veterinarian Perspectives on Parasite Treatment

This report presents findings from a global survey commissioned by MSD Animal Health, aimed at understanding pet owners' knowledge gaps regarding flea and tick threats, as well as veterinarians' roles in educating pet owners. The methodology involved a sample of 4,072 pet owners and 582 veterinarians across various countries, including the U.S., UK, and Brazil, recruited through an online panel. Key findings indicate that while a significant majority of pet owners recognize fleas and ticks as threats, many do not adhere to year-round treatment protocols. The report highlights that discussions about parasite prevention are commonly initiated by veterinarians during routine check-ups. Additionally, the survey reveals a preference among pet owners for veterinarian-administered treatments and a willingness for less frequent administration options. The report also addresses the discrepancies in treatment compliance and the challenges faced by pet owners in following treatment instructions, reflecting veterinarians' concerns about compliance and accuracy in administering treatments.
