This research report investigates child online safety in Lagos, Nigeria, focusing on the behaviors, experiences, and challenges faced by children aged 8 to 17 while using the internet. The study was commissioned by MTN and conducted by Ipsos Africa Centre for Development Research & Evaluation. It aims to enhance online child safety by identifying the various risks children encounter online, including exposure to inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and online predators. The methodology employed a cross-sectional survey, reaching out to a sample of 514 children to gather data on their online activities and safety measures. The report outlines the objectives of the study, including understanding how internet access can facilitate exploitation and abuse, identifying at-risk groups, and assessing the impact of technology on child safety. The findings are intended to inform strategies for improving online safety and guide future research in other regions of Nigeria, contributing to the development of effective protective measures for children in the digital space.
