This case study details the City of Cedar Hills, Utah's implementation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and a customer engagement portal to promote water conservation and enhance customer awareness of water usage. The initiative aimed to transition to metered pressurized irrigation billing, enabling near real-time visibility of water consumption for approximately 2,600 residential connections. The introduction of Mueller Systems’ Solid-State Meters and the Sentryx™ Water Intelligence Platform has led to significant reductions in water usage, particularly in outdoor watering, with some households reducing consumption by up to 50%. The study also outlines the challenges faced by Utah, a rapidly growing state in a dry region, and the legislative measures taken to mandate metering by 2030. The results indicate a positive trend in customer engagement, with nearly 34% of residents utilizing the customer portal within the first year, contributing to ongoing conservation efforts and behavioral changes in water usage.
