Enhancing Adaptive Capacity for Small Farmers

This document is a project report detailing the Enhancing Adaptive Capacity and Increasing Resilience of Small and Marginal Farmers in Purulia and Bankura Districts of West Bengal. The project, implemented by the Development Research Communication and Services Centre, addresses various challenges faced by local farmers, including sparse vegetation, deforestation, and water scarcity. It outlines the project's financial outlay of USD 2.51 million, sanctioned in 2015 and completed in 2022. The report highlights the impact of the project, which has benefited 22,596 individuals by reducing climate vulnerability. Key initiatives include hyper-local weather forecasting, improved water security through the construction of ponds and wells, crop diversification, and enhanced nutrition and health through community gardens. The project has also supported livelihood diversification, reduced seasonal migration, empowered women through self-help groups, and strengthened social capital within the farming community.
