This technical report discusses NEC's initiatives for achieving full automation in network operations through the development of its operations support system (NEC OSS). The report outlines the challenges faced by communication service providers (CSPs) in optimizing distributed resources across numerous small-scale data centers as they transition to Beyond 5G and 6G networks. It details the necessity for automation in network operations to manage the complexity of multiple generations of networks and the increasing demand for rapid service delivery. The NEC OSS framework is presented as a solution that integrates assurance, fulfillment, and orchestration functionalities, utilizing microservices and no-code/low-code technologies to enhance operational efficiency. The report also emphasizes the importance of intent-driven orchestration as a critical component for achieving Level 5 automation, enabling networks to autonomously adapt to operational demands. Furthermore, it highlights the advancements in monitoring and maintenance operations through AI and machine learning, aimed at improving fault recovery and reducing downtime.
