This case study details the spatial analysis conducted by Futures Housing Group to understand and mitigate flood risk across its properties in the East Midlands. With over 10,500 homes, Futures aims to address the increasing risk of flooding due to climate change, as outlined in its corporate plan. The project involved a geospatial analyst who utilized flood risk polygons and integrated them with Futures' property data in a spatial database. This allowed for concurrent spatial queries to identify current and future flood risk areas. The analysis included additional attributes for each property regarding surface water and river flood risks. An interactive map was developed to enable Futures employees to access flood risk information efficiently. The outcomes of this analysis provide Futures with a clearer understanding of flood risks, facilitating informed decision-making in property management and resident support. The system is designed to be self-sufficient, allowing for updates as new flood risk data becomes available.
