This case study details the implementation of GIS technology by Torus, one of the largest social landlords in North West England. The organization manages 40,000 homes and aims to develop 5,600 new homes by 2026, focusing on creating stronger communities. To address the challenges at the neighborhood level, Torus required clear insights that would assist various teams in making informed decisions. The selected solution included SIS Desktop and SIS WebMap in the cloud, which facilitated the creation of thematic maps that display essential data such as asset locations, growth potential, and crime hotspots. These maps contribute to an overall index of vitality, providing context through demographic and socio-economic indicators. The implementation of GIS has transformed the decision-making process within Torus, allowing non-technical staff to engage with mapping tools and freeing up GIS technicians for more complex tasks. Future projects will leverage GIS for deeper understanding of community dynamics and risk assessment.
