This case study details the modernization of the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) at York County Community Action Corporation (YCCAC), a nonprofit organization serving over 15,000 residents in Maine. Faced with rising costs and performance issues related to their existing IT infrastructure, YCCAC sought a solution that would enhance scalability and reduce licensing expenses. The organization implemented a hybrid Azure Virtual Desktop environment, integrating Nerdio Manager for Enterprise to automate processes and improve resource management. The collaboration with DataON ensured compliance with local data regulations while optimizing performance. The results included a reduction in the number of RDS hosts from 40 to 15, seamless migration of 237 users, and significant time savings in IT management. This modernization enables YCCAC to focus on its mission of supporting vulnerable populations, ensuring that technology serves as a reliable and efficient means to enhance community services.
