This case study details the selection and implementation of Nexsan's unified hybrid storage system by the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies (COAPS) at Florida State University (FSU). COAPS required a robust data storage platform to support the distribution of global ocean forecasts, necessitating reliability, scalability, and high performance. The initial deployment involved approximately 250 Terabytes (TB) of storage, which has since scaled to over 1 Petabyte (PB). The Nexsan solution has provided COAPS with a 99.99% uptime since deployment, enabling the organization to accommodate over 1,000 users and stream more than 1.2PB of data annually. The FASTier caching feature has enhanced system performance and flexibility, contributing to a strong return on investment. The case study also notes that other units within FSU are considering Nexsan storage solutions to meet their data management needs, highlighting the effectiveness of the implemented system.
