Uptime Institute AI Infrastructure Survey 2025

This report presents the findings of the Uptime Institute AI Infrastructure Survey conducted between January 21, 2025, and February 24, 2025, with a total of 1,062 data center industry respondents. The survey reveals that one-third of data center operators (32%) currently host applications that perform AI inference, with an additional 45% planning to implement such capabilities. The report details the primary hosting environments for AI inference workloads, noting that on-premises data centers in central locations are the most common (46%), followed by colocation facilities (34%). Key factors influencing the choice of location for AI inference include the ability to utilize existing infrastructure (50%), data sovereignty (46%), and power availability (37%). Furthermore, the report indicates that 52% of owner/operators upgrading their data center systems do so to support AI workloads, focusing on power distribution and cooling systems. Overall, the findings provide insights into the current landscape and future intentions regarding AI infrastructure in the data center industry.
