BAE Systems Collaboration and Compliance Solution

This document is a case study detailing the collaboration and compliance solution implemented by BAE Systems, Inc. to address challenges associated with electronic export regulations and intellectual property protection while facilitating global collaboration. BAE Systems, which employs over 43,000 individuals across multiple countries, faced significant operational overheads and compliance risks due to the manual processes involved in managing collaboration sites on Microsoft SharePoint. The solution, developed in partnership with NextLabs, includes a model-based framework for policy definition and management, automatic classification of shared data, and centralized management of information access policies. Key features of the solution include automated workflows for site creation and document classification, as well as monitoring and logging capabilities for compliance reporting. The implementation resulted in improved business productivity, reduced IT overhead, and decreased costs associated with export compliance, allowing users to collaborate more efficiently and securely.
