This technical report analyzes the economy-wide impacts of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Thailand by 2050. The study employs a multi-sector, recursive dynamic model known as the AIM/CGE model, which integrates data from the AIM/Enduse model to assess macroeconomic implications. The report outlines two scenarios: the Reference scenario, which aligns with Thailand's long-term low greenhouse gas emission development strategy, and the Net-zero Emission 2050 scenario, which anticipates significant carbon sequestration from the land use, land-use change, and forestry (LULUCF) sector. The findings indicate that reaching net-zero emissions will incur a GDP loss and necessitate a substantial reduction in household consumption, leading to welfare losses. Key strategies for decarbonization identified include enhancing energy efficiency, promoting renewable energy, and advancing carbon capture technologies. The report emphasizes the need for immediate deployment of clean energy technologies and highlights challenges related to technological implementation and investment requirements.
