This case study details the challenges and solutions related to geothermal wells in the Netherlands, focusing on the use of the TK-Liner system to address corrosion issues. Geothermal wells, which vary in depth from 1,500 to 3,000 meters, face significant threats from CO2 corrosion and scaling, particularly due to the high levels of corrosive carbon dioxide and salinity in the region. The TK-Liner, developed by Tuboscope, is a high-performance glass-reinforced epoxy lining system designed to provide exceptional corrosion protection. The case study outlines the implementation of this system in five geothermal wells, including three injector wells and two producer wells, operated by ECW Energy. It describes the redesign and rapid manufacturing of a liner top packer system to accommodate the corrosive conditions, achieving a 35% reduction in material loss due to corrosion. The TK-Liner system is presented as a cost-effective solution that enhances thermal insulation and flow rates in geothermal applications.
