This case study details the partnership between the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and Nutanix to enhance the digitisation of collections related to First Nations Australians. The objective of the project is to provide modern technologies that facilitate online access to AIATSIS's extensive digitised collections, which include over 1 million items that represent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and heritage. The case study outlines the challenges faced by AIATSIS in managing large volumes of data, particularly from remote locations, and how the implementation of Nutanix AHV and the Nutanix Kubernetes Engine has transformed their IT infrastructure. This transformation allows for faster and more accurate analysis of data, enabling efficient management of applications and artefacts. The case study also highlights the role of Nutanix partner Qirx in deploying the necessary IT architecture, which has simplified infrastructure management and reduced operational overheads, ultimately allowing AIATSIS to focus on innovative technologies.
