This case study details the upgrade of an American grocery chain's communication capabilities across more than 60 locations, transitioning from an outdated Nortel phone system to new Cisco IP handsets. The grocery chain aimed to achieve this upgrade while minimizing environmental impact, business disruption, and network readiness costs. The solution was provided by FirstLight Fiber, which utilized NVT Phybridge PoE innovations to leverage existing network infrastructure. Since the project's initiation in 2016, over 3,000 IP devices have been deployed using a repeatable and scalable methodology. The grocery chain has realized over $1 million in infrastructure cost savings while maintaining operational efficiency. The project aligns with the retailer's sustainability objectives, focusing on responsible sourcing, environmental protection, community impact, and employee well-being. The PoLRE switch solution enabled a smooth transition to IP communications, significantly reducing unnecessary costs and risks associated with traditional network upgrades.
