Calgary Twin-Tower Office Complex IP Intercom Upgrade

This case study details the upgrade of an analog intercom system to a modern SIP-capable IP intercom solution at a twin-tower office complex in downtown Calgary. The project aimed to enhance communication and safety across multiple elevators, parkades, and emergency call stations. Convergint Technologies selected NVT Phybridge Power over Ethernet (PoE) innovations to address the challenges posed by the existing infrastructure, which included 113 analog intercoms and significant integration issues. The solution utilized existing two-wire and coax cabling, minimizing the need for extensive re-cabling and reducing operational disruptions. The upgraded system improved audio clarity and reliability, essential for emergency situations, and integrated with the property’s Genetec security platform for advanced functionalities. The project also aligned with sustainability goals, reducing electronic waste and supporting LEED Platinum certification. Overall, the upgrade resulted in enhanced communication capabilities and operational efficiency while maintaining a commitment to environmental responsibility.
