This case study details the modernization of a defense command center's communication system, transitioning from a legacy analog setup to an IP-based telephony solution. The objective was to enhance operational efficiency while minimizing disruption and costs. The organization implemented a Modern LAN strategy utilizing NVT Phybridge's PoLRE switch innovations, which allowed for the deployment of hundreds of Avaya IP phones over existing single-pair UTP (CAT3) cabling. This approach not only accelerated deployment by approximately 50% but also resulted in an estimated savings of $450K in network readiness costs. The initiative effectively reduced the environmental impact by preventing over 3 tons of electronic waste through the reuse of existing infrastructure. The case study highlights the successful execution of the project, which maintained operational continuity and received positive feedback from users regarding performance, demonstrating the viability of modern network strategies in mission-critical environments.
