This case study details the implementation of a modern communication system by a large healthcare system in the Northwestern US, which involved the deployment of over 900 IP phones. The existing analog communication solutions were found to be limited in functionality, leading to operational inefficiencies that negatively impacted patient experiences. The healthcare system faced challenges in establishing a secure Power over Ethernet (PoE) backbone for the new system, as traditional methods would have been costly and disruptive. The introduction of the NVT Phybridge long-reach PoLRE PoE switch allowed the organization to utilize its existing CAT3 voice infrastructure effectively. This switch enabled connections of IP devices up to 1,200 feet, significantly extending the reach compared to standard PoE switches. The deployment methodology was characterized as repeatable, predictable, and scalable, allowing the healthcare system to modernize its communication infrastructure without the need for extensive cabling upgrades or new IDF closets, ultimately saving costs and minimizing operational disruption.
