This case study details the network upgrade project undertaken by a correctional facility in the northeastern United States, which aimed to modernize its outdated analog security system. The facility faced significant challenges due to the complexity and costs associated with replacing existing infrastructure across multiple buildings. Johnson Controls introduced the NVT Phybridge CLEER24-10G switches, which allowed the facility to utilize its existing coaxial infrastructure to create a high-performance Power over Ethernet (PoE) network. The deployment of 154 FLIR IP cameras was achieved without the need for extensive re-cabling, resulting in a cost saving of approximately $300,000 and a reduction in deployment time by six months. The project was executed in phases to minimize disruption to daily operations. The new system improved security monitoring capabilities and compliance with PREA regulations, while also aligning with sustainability goals by reducing electronic waste. Overall, the facility enhanced its security management through centralized monitoring and improved video quality.
