This case study details the upgrade of a Northeastern U.S. school district's communications system from an end-of-life Nortel system to a Mitel IP telephony solution across ten buildings. The district aimed to maintain voice and data separation while reusing existing infrastructure to minimize costs and complexity. The NVT Phybridge PoLRE switch innovation was recommended by the integrator partner, Rel Comm Voice and Data Communications, to facilitate this transition. The project was strategically scheduled during the summer break to avoid disruption, allowing for a quick and seamless deployment. The PoLRE switch enabled the reuse of existing CAT3 infrastructure, preserving operational reliability and contributing to significant cost savings of over $100,000. Additionally, the project aligned with the district's sustainability goals by minimizing electronic waste and enhancing energy efficiency. This initiative illustrates the benefits of leveraging existing technology to achieve operational excellence and environmental stewardship.
